The Birth of Light – 2026
(cast iron and gilded glass)

“The Birth of Light” is a sculptural expression of the encounter between matter and the transcendent. At the centre of the work stands a massive cast-iron form with a raw, rugged surface. It appears almost as an ancient geological formation, bearing within it the traces of emergence, destruction and transformation. Its irregular, porous and eroded surface evokes the remains of a world still in the process of taking shape — a state in which form has not yet reached its final definition.

From this dark, dense material world emerges the arc of gilded glass. Its delicate, translucent presence forms a striking counterpoint to the weight and roughness of the iron. Gold becomes both a bearer and a symbol of light. Within the composition, the curved glass form may simultaneously evoke a rising sun, a horizon, a gateway, or a cosmic vault. It is as though something that did not exist before is now emerging from the darkness. Light, therefore, does not simply appear within the work: it is being born. The work reveals a series of oppositions and tensions: iron and glass, darkness and light, mass and fragility, earthly matter and transcendent radiance.

Thus, “The Birth of Light” is not an depiction of a specific moment, but rather a sculptural allegory of an ancient and universal idea: the emergence of order from chaos, the appearance of light within darkness, and the transformation of matter into light. Perhaps, in contemplating the work, we become witnesses to a moment in which Creation is still unfolding.
